Title

Column of Marcus Aurelius

Description

The Column of Marcus Aurelius was completed in the later 2nd century AD and modeled to resemble Trajan's column. Currently situated in the Piazza Colonna, the column pictures a spiral relief of various battles and events throughout Aurelius' life. Initially situated in the Campus Martius, the column is built out of a number of marble sections as opposed to one slab of marble monastic [monolithic? i.e., one piece? TA] columns.
